BHRT for Men
What is BHRT?

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy is also called BHRT.

Bioidentical hormones are identical to the hormones produced in our bodies. In women, the main hormones replaced in this therapy are estradiol, progesterone, testosterone and thyroid. In men, mainly testosterone and thyroid.

What is Andropause or Male Menopause?

Similar to menopause in women, andropause arrives in a man’s life when there is a drastic drop in hormone levels. When levels of testosterone fall, the condition is called hypogonadism (hypo=low, gonad=testis). Although total testosterone may not drop drastically, free testosterone, or the active form of testosterone, drops significantly with age. A recent World Health Organization (WHO) report stated “male androgens progressively decline with age”. In this study it was found that the testosterone level of the men 70 years old was only 10% of that of the men 25 years of age.. By the time men are between the ages of 40 and 55, they can experience signs similar to female menopause. Symptoms manifest themselves in a number of ways including physical, emotional, psychological and behavioral changes.

What are the symptoms of andropause?

  • Aches and pains
  • Loss of energy or fatigue
  • Increase of body fat, abdominal weight gain
  • Insomnia
  • Migraines
  • Elevated cholesterol
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Difficulty achieving/Maintaining an erection
  • Reduced overall sexual function
  • Loss of mental focus
  • Anxiety and depression and mood swings
  • Decreased strength and Endurance

What can I do?

Hormone replacement therapy may help reverse some of the negative effects of low testosterone. Biologically identical testosterone is the same molecular structure and might produce the same effects as the free form testosterone produced by the testes.
